For those of us in the event indsustry, we know how important good lighting is to enhance your wedding. It can totally transform a room. Today, Fred Elting of Frost Lighting will share with you how lighting can bring a romantic, playful, or dramatic ambiance to your wedding. With the flip of a switch or lowering of a dimmer, special lighting is a must have element for a beautiful event.
Why is lighting so important for events?
Lighting is very important to an event because it not only sets the mood of the event but it also enhances and transforms the space and the decor. Pin spots on the floral center pieces make the texture and colors of the arrangements come alive while bringing out the beauty and richness of the flowers. Up lighting onto the walls of the space sets the mood of the room and can transform it by filling it with soft flattering color.

What does a basic lighting package for a wedding reception include?
A basic package consists of first pin beam spotlighting onto the tables center pieces, then we light the dance floor with washes of flattering mood lighting. The next addition we would do is up lighting onto the walls in a flattering color. Two small items that are important to every design is lighting the escort card table and the cake table.

What additional lighting can a bride and groom use to enhance their wedding venue?
There are all sorts of additional enhancements we can create. These enhancements are always customized to fit the space, the decor and ambiance of the wedding. When centerpieces are large and tall we like double pin spot them to light both sides of the arrangements.
With the use of energy efficient LED fixtures, we can make the up lighting change colors throughout the evening. The change can be a slow subtle change of intensity within the same color, such as going from a very soft pink as guests enter the room and over the course of the evening becoming a rich saturated red. LEDs can also be used to add energy and excitement to the room later in the evening as the party and dancing kicks in.
We have a large assortment of chandeliers, paper lanterns and pendent lights that can be suspended throughout a space helping add a personal touch of elegance or garden ambiance.

What unique lighting options do you offer? What is the most dramatic or unique wedding that you have produced?
This past June we had the wonderful opportunity to work with David Tutera on an amazing wedding in Easton, MD. The big part of the lighting design was to change the look in the ceiling of tent from a warm sunset to a starry evening sky. We lit the ceiling with LEDs that illuminated the tent with the warm corals and reddish ambers of a sunset. As dinner was being served, the ceiling changed to a rich evening blue and thousands of twinkling miniature lights appeared entwined throughout branches overhead. It created a truly magical ambiance.
