Ask Devon: Rustic Reception Venues

Our next question comes from Mary….

Do you know of a place somewhat close to DC/Old Town Alexandria, to have a reception that would be a little bit more of a rustic feel (I keep saying barn, but I don’t necessarily mean a barn– more just not the hotel/convention hall sort of place)? I think we’d have a smaller wedding– like 100-115 people if that helps.

While I think a rustic wedding is so warm, cozy, and very magical, it is hard to pull off in a metropolitan area like D.C.  Since Mary is willing to consider Northern Virginia, I would suggest looking into these two lovely historic venues…

Great Falls Grange

Located within Great Falls Grange Park in Fairfax County, this venue boasts a barrel-vaulted bead board ceiling, hardwood floors, and floor-to-ceiling windows — perfect for creating that rustic feel.  Plus, Great Falls Grange can accommodate a party of up to 135 guests for a seated dinner — such a great size for an intimate autumn wedding…

A second option, also located in Fairfax County, is Cabell’s Mill…

Cabell’s Mill is situated within the Ellanor C. Lawrence Park, in Centreville, Virginia.  With hardwood floors, a working fireplace, and an expansive terrace overlooking the park, Cabel’s Mill would be perfect for an outdoor ceremony and indoor rustic reception for up to 125 guests.

I am looking for a rustic type wedding as well. I love the pictures of the The Pavillion at Angus Barn in NC, but it is too expensive for my budget. $10000 for the reception. http://www.thepavilionsattheangusbarn.com/index.htm
I am looking for a rustic type venue for about 150-170 people anywhere in VA, NC, MD, or Philly PA area. Thanks so much for your help!
