Last week Julia told us all about her ‘pie in the sky’ idea for dessert – loved it! This week, she stops by to tell us about her oh-so-fun registry…
From Julia…
Shiny, Sparkly New Things!
I have to admit, I am way more excited about the registry now that I have had my bridal shower and received many sparkly and shiny new gifts. I originally felt extremely guilty about registering for new stuff, considering we gave away so much when we merged households. But, then I started thinking about how nice it would be to complete certain sets of dishes, knives, etc and to start our marriage off with newer, matching things.
My fiancé only got excited about the registry because he got to go to stores and shoot a scanner gun at items. (Boys never grow up!)
Another fun thing about registering is the events that some retail outlets host to “woo” you. I highly encourage attending these events because this will give your registry search some guidance. Otherwise, you may find yourself aimlessly wandering through stores with no direction.
Crate and Barrel invites you to an early-opening of their stores where only brides/grooms/friends get to shop, gives you advice on what to register for and feeds you great food made using their products. Check out their store locator for events at each store.
And over at one of my fav blogs, wedding bee, the bees have all talked about their registry experiences, including some cool tips about Wishpot and registering for vintage items. Check it out here.
But, it was not all roses for us. We did clash over several items. Mainly, the china and crystal. My fiancé doesn’t even think we will ever use china and thinks it is a “waste of money.” I was a girl who grew up in a house where every special meal in the dining room was served on my mother’s china.
There is just something fancy and special about it. I want my family to have that same tradition. So, I picked it out and registered for it. (He got over it quickly.) I picked the Kate Spade June Lane china and the Lenox Solitaire Platinum crystal.
It was important to me to pick a china set that included a gravy bowl (just reminds me so much of growing up). Everytime I look at the plates I have received I get all weirdly giddy!

So, my question is – how many of you are registering for china and/or crystal? Several of my friends decided to pass. And when I mention it they act as if I am from the 1940’s or something. Let us know and leave a comment!
Are you searching for more/different registry items? Over at Wedded Bits they had a link to a photo gallery that showed a few items from celebrity registries.
I found out that Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt actually registered for the same Kate Spade crystalware that I did. And I might even add a few to my registry, like Kendra Wilkinson and Hank Baskett’s Towel Spa Towel Warmer!
As always, thanks to Julia for stopping by and giving us so much to think about – be sure to leave a comment for her!

I don’t have to register for china or crystal – I have two complete sets coming my way! It ended the debate for us, especially since they are coming from his mom. Otherwise, we would have ended up registering for SOMETHING, it just might not have been as many settings!
We are registering for china, both of our mothers have china cabinets in the dining room and use both the stemware and china during family gatherings. While he wasn’t excited, he understands and we have actually agreed on a few options. I think traditions are great and am planning on adding to them.
We registered for the exact same china! I love the Kate Spade June Lane series – and he didn’t mind so much…we got married in early October and received all of our china. Super excited to use it. We were definitely talked into registering for china and ended up being really glad that we did – now we’ve got something to serve on and use to create the same types of memories I have of my mom’s china and family occasions growing up.
