Bride Blogger Update: Saying Yes to a Dress

Today, Kimberly tells us about her search for THE dress…ooo-la-la…

***

This has been my favorite element to plan – what I will wear on my wedding day.  Since I chose my dress over a year ago, I’ll catch everyone up on what happened last July.  I visited 2 legendary bridal stores –Kleinfeld Bridal (Say Yes to the Dress) and Mark Ingram Bridal Atelier in NYC.

Dresses by Romona Keveza

If I only give one piece of advice about finding your dress, it would be to trust yourself.  No matter what “vision” others might have, you have to make sure you are the one that has the final say. Coco Chanel said, “The most courageous act is still to think for yourself. Aloud.”  This is the message I will take with me as I look for my gown.

I found a dress by Oscar de la Renta at Mark Ingram.  There was a trunk show (another great way to save at least 10%) so why not go and try?  I also wanted to have a “Plan B”.  Hence, a reason to go to Kleinfeld – if you can’t find it there, then it doesn’t exist.

I arrived at Kleinfeld, and was shocked at how massive the store was.  They really do have over 2,000 bridal samples.  Keasha, one of SYTTD consultants would work with me.  In true Kleinfeld tradition, she asked, “How do you want to look on your wedding day?”  I told her I wanted to look like a cross between Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy – classic, sophisticated and timeless.

She comes back with selections from Romona Keveza, and I knew I was in love.  Here are the top contenders (you didn’t think I was going to tell you what dress I chose did you?)

When people tell you that it’s hard selecting a dress, believe them. Could I say yes to either of these dresses, you bet.  I now have a “Plan B.” Next stop, Mark Ingram.

Stepping through the doors, the shop is intimate – It’s hard not to feel at home.  My consultant Kelsey greeted me at the door, and we were off to work.  We go into the dressing room, and slip on what I had traveled so far to see. It takes just a moment to know that the dress wasn’t what I was looking for.

Stepping outside to gauge the reaction of my mom, MOH and Aimee, I heard Coco’s words in my head and knew I had made the right decision.  We all agreed this wasn’t the dress, but Kelsey showed me others that might fit the bill.
