Today’s final wedding was held last September at Westwood Country Club in Vienna, Virginia. The bride selected two beautiful hues for her color palette — cranberry red and deep purple, accented with just a hint of gold.

As we all know, September in D.C. is still very warm. Though it is also post-Labor Day, so if you’re a traditionalist, white is out.

Check out these halter-style dresses from Intermix. The top left print is my favorite, though the bottom left chocolate matte jersey number is also very chic. The blue is bold and very stunning; and the grey is safe and so pretty. Any of these halter styles would be so fun for a September D.C. wedding!

This next wedding was held at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in May (prime peony season!). It is a quintessential spring D.C. wedding — the outdoor ceremony, fun paper lanterns, loads upon loads of pink peonies — so pretty.

This beautiful couple was married at the Andrew W. Mellon auditorium. Oh, I am in love with those flowers (dendrobium orchids) and the gorgeous decor, designed by Amaryllis, Inc. This wedding was planned by Aimee Dominick, of A.Dominick Events, and the invitation likely read “Black Tie Optional.” Technically, that means the couple would prefer for the gentlemen to wear tuxedos, but they will understand if a man shows up in a suit instead. But what should the ladies wear?

Gone are the days of long beaded dresses and ball-gown numbers for a black tie wedding, especially black tie optional. I think a modern take on the “little black dress” would be perfect for this occasion. Here are a few I found at White House Black Market… Dress them up with a black peep-toe heal and silver clutch and you’re good to go!

A while ago, when I started thinking about creating a website for D.C. brides, a friend of mine suggested that I also include something for guests. What a fabulous idea! She said that, as a guest, she never really knows what to wear, especially to a wedding in the Mid-Atlantic area where each season is different. A beachfront wedding in St. Thomas? Easy. A cozy wedding in Aspen? Got it. But a spring wedding in D.C.? Ooh, that’s a tricky one. I can totally relate.

Ever since I talked with her, I’ve been so excited about today’s set of posts.

We will be featuring three real weddings, each held in a different style venue, in a different season. For each wedding, I’ll also suggest a few ideas for guests’ attire, and explain why I chose each.
