Bride Blogger Update: Bridal Boot Camp

Every bride wants to feel and look her best for the big day and today Marybeth has a few wise tips on how to get into gear!

***

With my first dress fitting a month away I have entered what my coworkers have termed “bridal boot camp.”  I am guessing my regimen is similar to many brides; I have given up all the extra calories by cutting out soda, limiting alcohol and kicking up the workouts.

If I were still in the D.C. area this boot camp would include extra trips to Gold’s Gym and a few classes at Down Dog Yoga.  But here in San Diego the regular work out routine is anything but.  Traditional gyms are few and far between because with gorgeous weather year round and the beach near by who wants to spend hours in a smelly gym sweating it out?

Hiking, outdoor boot camps, running and biking are the way of life here.  I remember DC winters and know that in February outdoor activities are limited.  But D.C. ladies, I am happy to share that a few of my favorite San Diego workouts are headed east!

Core Power Yoga is the place to practice your down dog and warrior poses and in a few months they will be opening studios in Bethesda and D.C.   Core Power Yoga mixes it up with classes set to up-beat music and offering yoga sculpt – heated yoga with weights.

Bride Blogger Update: Hair

Happy Valentine’s Day!  Today is a day to celebrate love, something that I feel pretty strongly about here at District Weddings.  Does anyone have fun plans?  I was up super late last night prepping for a savory but tedious meal!  I hope that it is all worth it tonight.  Yum!

Okay, back to business – wedding updates from Marybeth.  Yup, I certainly like this news…and may even want to try it out myself despite not being a bride…

Even before Kate Middleton debuted her wedding look, I knew I wanted to wear my hair in a half-up style on my wedding day.  In December I had my first hair trial and eagerly showed the hairdresser various photos of the look I wanted.  As I paged through photos on the iPad, the hairdresser confirmed my fear.  I have very fine, stick straight hair.  My hair she explained was not full enough to create the soft rolling waves I was showing her.  My options were to go with an updo, use a clip in hairpiece or get extensions.  That day we did a few trial updos and I knew it was not what I wanted.

Bride Blogger Update: Bridesmaids’ Look

As we have followed Bride Blogger Marybeth‘s planning journey, it has been absolutely clear that she has lovely, lovely taste.  So, it is obviously not a surprise that she has also found the perfect bridesmaid look for her gals…check it out!

A few months ago I wrote about the trouble I had finding the perfect bridesmaids dress.  Many dresses later, an off the rack BCBG dress was the winner.  After finding the dress, I decided on a bouquet of light and dark pink tulips for the ladies.  I thought the pink would really pop off the navy blue.

With the bouquets and dresses in place I was able to think about completing their look with shoes and jewelry.

Bride Blogger Update: Shoes

We are a bit out of order this week but are kicking off our Wednesday with a Bride Blogger update from Marybeth.  Last week we heard about cake, and today we get to hear about shoes – Fun!! I love all of the options that she has pulled – which one would you pick?

I have to confess I am a shoeaholic, so it should come as no surprise to those who know me that I have spent numerous hours online viewing potential wedding day shoes.

For some brides, shoes are one of the last items they think of, almost as an after thought.  Not for me.  I think the shoes are a key part of your overall wedding look and there are so many decision, color or no color, heel or wedge, strappy or peep toe…I could go on and on.

Instead of going on and on, I have compiled my favorite finds ranging from the more traditional pink and ivory BHLDN pairs to the preppy and colorful Kate Spade and J. Crew pairs.  I’ve saved mine to share at a later date as part of my overall look.  In the meantime I hope these spark some inspiration for you.

Bride Blogger Update: Cake!

Until you start planning a wedding, you may not know how many cake designs and flavors there are out there — so many fabulous options that it can be hard to decide!  It sounds like Marybeth and James have made a fabulous decision on their wedding cake…

Things are really moving along with our wedding planning and I cannot wait to head back to D.C. in March for more big meetings and decisions.  Over the holidays I headed to Fluffy Thoughts with my mom and wedding planner to tackle the cake.

There are so many decisions to be made for the cake including flavors, filling, buttercream, fondant and the design.  Luckily with the help of the team at Fluffy Thoughts I was able to determine the flavor and the look in under an hour – hooray!

James and I both wanted to keep the cake on the simple side and while searching on Pinterest and Lover.ly I found great inspiration.  Below are two of the photos I found, where the cake has actual ribbon wrapped around it to create a simple, elegant design.   The team at Fluffy Thoughts suggested a monogramed cake topper similar to the one below and I was sold.  The letter with the ribbon created just the look I wanted.
