Love Notes – Real Wedding of M + Z

April 6, 2016

Both music teachers, Zach and Marie incorporated music in the most enchanting ways for their big day. For their first look, Zach surprised Marie with a private performance of John Lennon’s “Grow Old With Me” on guitar on the campus of Georgetown University. During the ceremony, the couple arranged a choir to perform the beautiful piece “This Marriage” by Eric Whitacre during the lighting of their unity candle. The musicians consisted of the bride and groom’s closest friends, and to make things even more special, Marie’s brother Brian officiated the ceremony. Zach’s dad even grabbed his guitar and joined the band onstage at the reception for a show stopper! The gorgeous July day could not have been memorable and perfect for the couple.

From the bride’s lace gown to the garden rose bouquet to the DC details at their Georgetown wedding – everything at this wedding breathed romance. Zach and Marie grew up locally and share a great love for the capital city, so they knew they had to incorporate the district’s amorous elements into their wedding. Their love for the city was seen through the table numbers as DC neighborhood names and the favors as cherry blossom seeds. Don’t forget the Georgetown Cupcakes and monument-themed cookies and chocolates for dessert!

Love From A Distance – Real Wedding of B+B

February 10, 2016

“Distance means so little when someone means so much.” This has been our motto from the beginning of our relationship. Our first date was on Cinco de Mayo 2010. Two days later, we went skydiving before I began a deployment to the Middle East. This deployment would stretch through a significant portion of our relationship for the next two years. The eight hour time difference, sparse internet and Skype connections, and the stress of war put more strain on our relationship than we could have ever expected. Throughout my deployment, we relied on each other for support and grew in love, respect, and a trust that we had never known. We knew that if we could make it through the long distance, there was nothing we couldn’t handle as a couple. Brian proposed to me while we were on vacation during my final R&R. I had to go back to Iraq for another month so we set the date and began planning while I was 7,000 miles away!” The DW team couldn’t think of a more loving and perfect Real Wedding for this valentines day, we loved B+B’s wedding!

Southern Charm- Real Wedding of E + P

December 16, 2015

These warm temperatures have us crushing on this Real Wedding!

They were married overlooking the Potomac river and farmland at Riverside by their close family friend, Jim Smalley. Jim created an intimate christian ceremony that surrounded the couple with prayers and special readings while the stood in front of a iron arch adorned with floral arrangements. Guests held cocktail hour and reception in the refurbished barn, where they enjoyed a specialty cocktail of “Chattanoogie” which was a play on a Kentucky Mule. Dessert were delicious local pies and ice cream, and the couple cut a cake created for them by a close friend. Erica and Peters were from Nashville and wanted to bring some of their southern roots and traditions into the wedding, along with a romantic touch with their color story of peach, blush, mint, and gold. While they did bring in some elements such as mason jars that typically have passed in trends, they wanted to be authentic to their own style as they are the type to pass the moonshine and have great home parties that have the same down home feeling!

Special Moment: They performed the “coup de marriage” which was a family tradition spanning 10 previous weddings where the couple competes to finish a small dual cup of champagne to see who will wear the “pants” in the marriage. The lady ALWAYS wins! All of the previous 10 couples came up to cheer on the couple and it was the first time all 10 were in the same room at the same time.

A Rustic Affair – Real Wedding of J + P

September 23, 2015

The couple wanted to create a cozy, rustic, relaxed atmosphere that would make all their guests feel like family. Pulling the event together was a group effort, the family helped with the flowers for the decor.  They created dozens of loose, romantic arrangements in mason jars, pitchers, and vintage milk bottles to be scattered throughout the venue.

Patrick and Jennifer’s courtship was a whirlwind — just three weeks after meeting, they started hinting at marriage, and six weeks later, they stumbled upon The Barns at Hamilton Station Vineyards in Hamilton, VA, and knew it was perfect for their wedding, which was held just nine and a half months after they met.

In lieu of cake, the couple, who love cooking together and have many fellow food-loving friends, asked some of their guests to contribute to a homemade pie bar. The result was a decadent buffet including cheesecake, a chocolate pudding cream tart, cranberry chess pie, concord grape pie, pumpkin pie, and of course, apple pie, among others (accompanied by a gigantic bowl of whipped cream!)

We knew this wedding would be the perfect feature for the first day of Fall!

District Favorite: The arriving guests sipped of hot cider served from a vintage pottery dispenser. The kraft paper sleeves on the cups were stamped with the couples’ custom wedding day design!

Small, yet Special – Real Wedding of A + R

March 11, 2015

Alyson and Ricardo tied the knot with a small and special group of family and friends this past October at Meridian Hill Park + Snow Hill Manor. This wedding had tons of family mementos that were charming + handmade. The toasting glasses were used at both Alyson’s and her sister’s wedding. The mercury glass votives were a handmade project that she and her sister took on during wedding planning. A + R’s wedding was clean and soft with the white florals, linens and accents. This real wedding reminds us that simple can be beautiful, but celebrating with a small group can be even more memorable and special!
