Jiayan & Nick – Modern Real Wedding

December 14, 2017

A Personal Touch

We made an effort to have the wedding reflect our personalities and background. Nick’s brother officiated the ceremony, and we weren’t afraid to inject some levity in the form of Game of Thrones references in our wedding program (which was a huge hit).

A set of bright red lanterns, brought by Jiayan’s parents from China, hung in the walkway separating the two main rooms in Long View Gallery. And Nick’s father reclaimed wood to hand make the end tables we used in the main seating vignette.

A longtime friend of Jiayan’s family, who is a skilled Chinese calligrapher, sketched the “double happiness” and “love” Chinese characters that Sarah Drake Design used to create stamps for the gold wax seals for the invitation suite.

The night was also not complete without a champagne bar with all the fixings (Jiayan’s favorite), bourbon bar (in line with Nick’s Kentucky roots), and cake truffles from Momofuku (from which we order regularly thanks to our sweet tooth).

A Bit of History

We like to think of our wedding as a lovely culmination of a series of unexpected events.

For anyone who is a fan of college football, our relationship is heresy – Nick is a graduate of Ohio State University and a lifelong Buckeye fan from the state of Ohio, and Jiayan is graduate of the University of Michigan and a devout Wolverine hailing from the Mitten.

Eight annual rivalry games, two law degrees, a dog, and a move to Washington, D.C. later, we decided to celebrate our unlikely union with our family and friends in a laid-back ceremony in the nation’s capital!

Countryside of England to DC, The wedding to remember!

August 31, 2016

Cristin and Piers planned for an elegant wedding in the countryside of England.   One double-booked English venue later came the necessity of a Plan B.  Cristin and Piers arrived at the brilliant, albeit last-minute decision to have their wedding in Washington DC, closer to family.  Thankfully the Anglophile couple’s favorite English band was able to travel.  Being in the design industry coupled with extensive travel led the couple to an old-world-meets-contemporary-luxury aesthetic for their wedding.

The Anderson House was the perfect venue to marry sleek modern design with antique flair.  The Anderson House is rich in architectural detail.  This served as a pleasing counterpoint to the light and airy color palette and florals.  Cristin designed the all-white paper suite herself as well as the C+P monogram used throughout the decor.  Cristin’s stunning Oscar de la Renta gown was complimented by her Grandmother’s white gold and diamond bracelet.

Thankfully Plan B in this case was not second best.  Cristin and Piers got ready on separate floors of Cristin’s Grandmother’s nearby home.  Guests danced the night away and exited to monogrammed sugar cookies as they sent the couple off with sparklers.  Cristin and Piers’ wedding was a fully charged celebration of a love that has already learned the importance of improvising!

Luxury Wedding Vibes with B&D

August 3, 2016

Our dream was for it to be traditional yet modern; detail oriented and completely our style. Our wedding was magical, timeless, luxurious and fun!  Our crystal chuppah that also served as a gorgeous centerpiece above the dance floor, is something we will never forget. The STUNNING floral wall that served as the backdrop during our ceremony and then for the band during the reception, was a personal favorite.  Guests were trying to guess the total number of flowers!

The reception was certainly one of our favorite moments of the night – three different floral centerpieces dripping with ivory blooms atop sequined linen tables and mirrored top tables with gold pedestals. Perfect lighting complete with pinspotting to accent each centerpiece, the cake, the crystals, it all!  Our wedding logo featured throughout, on the custom white dance floor, etched into the backs of the bride/groom ghost chairs, the cocktail menus, and more!

Even though we wish we could go back to our wedding day and do it all over again, we are so grateful that we have the most stunning photos/video from the wedding so that we are able to relive it all the time! Truly a night to remember and a fairytale having only just begun… -Barak & Danai

Modern Matrimony- Real Wedding of Michelle and Eric

May 18, 2016

Michelle + Eric knew they wanted a beautiful, modern and classy D.C. wedding. In her words, nothing Etsy allowed! She chose to go with an elegant black and silver color scheme and even incorporated fun, modern centerpieces that were not overly done.  This tied in perfectly with their venue at Arena Stage, and truly represented their taste perfectly!

Black Tie Affair – Real Wedding of T+A

January 20, 2016

On Oct 17th, 2015, Taylor and Andrew had a picture perfect day at the Park Hyatt in DC. A gorgeous black tie affair, the love between these two was captivating. One of my favorite parts of the day (and how can you choose just one), was when Andrew saw his bride for the first time. The first look is always one my favorites moments of the day because it carries with it such anticipation. The nerves of the day are diminished once you see your bride or groom to be, and its just a wonderful feeling as a photographer, to see and capture that.” -MBK
