Farewell and Best of Luck to Devon

It is with mixed emotion that we bid our Founder of District Weddings, Devon Pearce Fahner, farewell.  Over a year ago, Devon combined her incredible vision, creativity and tenacity to start the blog, and lay the foundation for this ultimate wedding resource for brides and industry professionals in Washington, DC.

As some of you may remember, Devon was married this past September.  And, her wedding most certainly showcased her incredible taste, organization and attention to detail – not to mention that Devon was one of the most poised and gorgeous brides I have ever seen!  Here is a peak at the incredible photos by Patricia Lyons of Devon’s Friday night Rehearsal Dinner…

So you ask, what now?  Well, leave it to Devon to find the next perfect step in life.  Moving to Chicago, Devon has merged her passion for weddings and her love affair with beautiful paper design to embark on her new chapter in life, representing Cheree Berry Paper in the Windy City.

So, get excited, because Devon will be back in the District for the rescheduled Engaged! in Washington event on Sunday, March 28th from 4:00 pm – 9:00 pm at the Ritz-Carlton, representing Cheree Berry Paper.

We wish her the best of luck and look forward to her updates as she continues to take our fabulous wedding industry by storm!  In the meantime, here is more eye candy for your enjoyment!  oxox.

Woodend Sanctuary Wedding

With this winter wonderland around us, today’s wedding brings the warmth of the spring that is just around the corner. From the oh-so-talented photographers The Happy Couple, I love the natural setting of Erin and Owen’s wedding at Woodend Sanctuary in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

Real Wedding by Andrew Reilly

When Andrew Reilly, the incredibly talented photographer, sent us this wedding, I can honestly say it took my breath away at first sight.   The Airlie Center in Warrenton, Virginia, just outside of Washington, DC, has such a natural, stately beauty.  This wedding is full of the type of details that we love here at District Weddings.

District Places: Top of the Town

Last week, we featured Oxon Hill Manor, a beautiful estate in Oxon Hill, Maryland.  Today, we’re going to the other side of the river to Arlington, Virginia.

Top of the Town is an event venue located in the Rosslyn neighborhood of Arlington.  With GORGEOUS panoramic views of the city, Top of the Town is a an incredibly unique spot.  Many have said that Top of the Town offers the absolute BEST views in the city.

Gorgeous, right?  And only 2.60 miles from downtown D.C.!

With so many exciting things going on in the world of D.C. weddings, I don’t usually like to spend much time talking about myself.  But today, I need to tell you a little background story.

My fiance went to the University of Michigan.  And when I say he is a fan, I mean he is like, the biggest, most die-hard fan you have ever met.  Both of his parents AND both of his sisters also went to Michigan, so needless to say, it runs in the family.  Lucky for me.  I went to UVA.  Wahoowa.

Now, it is said that the biggest rivalry in ALL of sports (bigger than Yankees vs. Red Sox, apparently) is Michigan vs. Ohio State.  You have to take a side.   That’s just the way it is.

Okay, whatever, so my little sister’s boyfriend comes from a long line of Ohio State fans.  I still like him.  AND I especially like him because he reads this blog every day.  Yes, that’s right.  He’s a District Weddings fan, and that makes me so incredibly happy.

So, Adam, this wedding is for you.  It took place at our featured District Place, Top of the Town, and well, I think you’ll like it…

Jessica and David were married last July.  To say their wedding was an incredibly fun-filled celebration is an understatement.  Rick Martin, an uber-talented local photographer sent me these fabulous photos… Be sure to check out the amazing view of the city!

Myrna Grossman of For All Occasions was the talented planner behind this wedding.

A big thanks to Rick for sending us these beautiful pictures.  Check out Rick’s blog for hours of wedding and engagement (and baby) eye candy!

And, congratulations, Jessica and David!  I love that your wedding was filled with personality and terrific fun.  But, I must say, Go Blue.

Real Wedding: Kelley & Brennan by Stephen Bobb, Part III

Like the rest of you, I’m aching to go outside and enjoy this beautiful day.  Only a few more hours til the weekend!  To keep you occupied, here’s a final round of shots of today’s perfectly charming Virginia countryside affair, taken by the amazing photo artist Stephen Bobb …

My favorite?  Those adorable cupcakes, baked by Courtney Weeks.  The catering was provided by Fruit of the Vine Catering Company.

And the flowers?  (Oh, the flowers – love ‘em.) Gathered Stems out of McLean, Virginia.  A HUGE thanks to Stephen Bobb for opening his wedding portfolio and sharing these great pictures with us! Congratulations, Kelly & Brennan!

That wraps up our Real Weddings Week!  Don’t worry, we have tons of other Real Weddings to show you throughout the coming months.

Next week the excitement continues — every day I’ll be interviewing one of D.C.’s top wedding experts.  From band leaders to make-up artists, hotel catering directors, to party planners, everyone “in the know” will be stopping by to tell us their two cents.  Don’t miss it!  Have a great weekend!
