Real Wedding of Allegra and Brendan

December 20, 2017

Sentimental Surroundings

Brendan and I met at the White House as interns seven years ago, and it was important to us to be married at a location that was meaningful to us and close to the White House. As a DAR descendant, I had always had it in the back of my mind as a potential wedding venue, and when DAR was flexible to allow us to mix up the format to be able to dine outdoors, our decision was a no-brainer.

All in the Details

It was also important to us that each detail be meaningful – the family photos, the biscotti, the fact that our minister knew Brendan growing up. We wanted it to be classic and understated but elegant, and we wanted our guests to feel at home. We had so many amazing moments and details, one special moment/fun fact was that our first dance was choreographed by my uncle and godfather, who is a professional dancer and who made it so much fun for us both.

From the Heart

I put a lot of thought into the readings during the ceremony. Since I studied literature, I looked for readings that were unusual – the CS Lewis reading was about learning to love even when things aren’t perfect, and the Pablo Neruda sonnet is a favorite of mine. The Robert Louis Stevenson poem I picked for Brendan, who loves all things Scottish, and for me because he’s a favorite children’s author of mine.

Unforgettable Expressions – Real Wedding of K+S

February 3, 2016

“Steve and I met during our senior year at William & Mary. We were introduced by our best friends, who happened to be dating at the time. They wanted to set us up, but we just became friends. We talked more and more, and I often sought his advice with other guys I was seeing. Finally he had enough of his advisory role and we started to date! We both lived in DC for a few years before Steve proposed. I’ll never forget the weather that Saturday — it was a beautiful sunny day, but more importantly, earlier in the week Steve said he checked the 5 day forecast and saw great weekend weather that meant we should go out for brunch and a long walk. Ever the suspicious one, I obviously assumed that him checking the weather in advance meant he was planning to propose (and so I painted my nails, asap). Sure enough, after a yummy meal at Hank’s Oyster Bar, we walked down to Dupont Circle and Steve dropped to one knee! What I didn’t see coming was the proposal afterparty – we went to Bar Dupont for a quick celebratory drink only to find 20 of our closest friends already there, popping bottles and taking our picture! After having such a great start to our engagement in Dupont Circle, having our wedding at the elegant Fairfax on Embassy Row Hotel right around the corner was only fitting. We were married on November 7, surrounded by the best friends and family a couple could ask for!”

Classic DC Elopement – Real Wedding of R + B

September 9, 2015

Happy Wedding Wednesday! Today, we are letting our real wedding bride, Rebecca tells her story since it is utterly different that most real weddings we share on DW! We hope you enjoy!

Having decided to get married in Beijing, China on June 7th, 2015, we wanted to do something small and intimate to celebrate our marriage in the United States with family and close friends. Though my parents were originally not expected to attend, my mother surprised us and was able to make the trip. With her traveling across the world to be a part of our American wedding and meeting Brandon for the very first time, along with relatives visiting from out of town, we wanted to do something memorable. We thought it would be a fun idea to get married at the courthouse in Washington, DC, where we would be able to do some sight seeing and with Christy’s help, take some beautiful wedding photos! Growing up in the capital of China, it was incredibly special that we were able to get married in the United States capital. We really love our pictures from Washington’s world famous scenes that are recognizable to our family and friends around the world!

One of the sweetest moments was when Brandon turned and looked at his mom right before him and Rebecca said “I Do” at the courthouse

College Sweethearts – The Real Wedding of J + W

May 6, 2015

Georgetown University sweethearts, Jane and Watson, planned an elegant black-tie wedding at the ornate Anderson House. The 50-room mansion is full of intricate marble floors and gilded papier-mâché ceilings. Inside a venue so elaborate the couple chose to keep the decor minimal, sticking with simple elegance: white flowers and delicate tea lights.

The ceremony was held at Georgetown University’s intimate Dahlgren Chapel where most of their wedding party was made up of friends from their college days in D.C.

This fun loving couple was brought together seeing the world through traveling, both separate and together! Their honeymoon was no exception – where after their wedding they hopped on a plane to Russia and the Maldives! Jane and Watson’s night was the true definition of a timeless and classic wedding here in the heart of D.C!

Small, yet Special – Real Wedding of A + R

March 11, 2015

Alyson and Ricardo tied the knot with a small and special group of family and friends this past October at Meridian Hill Park + Snow Hill Manor. This wedding had tons of family mementos that were charming + handmade. The toasting glasses were used at both Alyson’s and her sister’s wedding. The mercury glass votives were a handmade project that she and her sister took on during wedding planning. A + R’s wedding was clean and soft with the white florals, linens and accents. This real wedding reminds us that simple can be beautiful, but celebrating with a small group can be even more memorable and special!
