Style Shoots

Sleek Elopement

August 2, 2017

Elizabeth Carberry of egcarberry and Lauren Miller of Lauren Louise Photography designed an urban styled elopement at DC’s first micro hotel, Hotel Hive, located near the George Washington University campus. All inspiration for the shoot originated from the hotel’s truly unique design and architecture; we chose modern, geometric elements to go a long with the non-traditional style of the wedding. The couple’s style is sleek, mature, and Hollywood-esque complete with a refurbished ’62 Jaguar, a custom designed suit from J.Hilburn, along with a ton of other local details. The couple’s non-traditional celebration is a private affair with just the two of them and all their favorite local DC vendors.

The vibe of the elopement is modern, urban and non-traditional. The couple’s style is sleek, mature, movie star-esque, cool, and unorthodox. The couple (the models were hired) is old school and cares about tradition in the sense of their love (they wrote their vows together) but non-traditional in that they want their love and the celebration of their love to be a private affair.

As far as dress, we went with something sleek and simple paired with a leather jacket. The groom (who is also a stylist at J.Hilburn) custom designed his tux specifically for this shoot. As far as a color palette, very basic shades (white and black) with subtle hints of color (red, sage, tan.)

Wollam Garden’s + a design team of experts!

March 3, 2016

As a flower farm located just 60 miles outside of Washington, DC, Wollam Gardens has been a longtime friend of the wedding industry. With the skilled help of local artist, David Braun, Wollam Gardens is now home to a beautiful event pavilion that is located in the middle of the farm’s lush gardens and natural beauty. For Wollam Garden’s official debut of this new wedding pavilion, we crafted a delicate and graceful design based on the pavilion’s natural palette, accenting the venue’s acres of flowers and artfully handcrafted architecture. A dream team of DC & Northern Virginia vendors came together to bring our vision to life. Sweet Root Village effortlessly created stunning floral displays using flowers from Wollam Gardens rolling gardens. Their mixture of graceful cascades over the pavilion entryways and flowing centerpieces adorning the luncheon tables brought a light touch of color to the earthy pavilion’s salvaged wood structure. Guests were treated to a light, farm-to-table inspired fare from Heirloom Catering, detailed on a hand designed menu from Shrimp Salad Circus.

For Your Seasonal, Maryland Wedding | Styled Shoot

September 15, 2015

Today, we are sharing what most people might expect to be a nautical-themed styled shoot in Maryland. Instead, it is a beautiful rustic shoot focusing on a variety of elements associated with Maryland. We couldn’t think of a better way to welcome the beautiful Fall season!
The Black Eyed Susan is the Maryland state flower that blooms from June through October and is perfect for an understated, earthy pop of vibrant yellow for summer and fall weddings. The fabulous design team decided to include other natural elements like burlap, lace, jugs, crocheted table pieces, and an old farm door for a table set over two original Jack Daniels whiskey barrels.
Using these staple items, the subtle colors of bronze, gold, and ivory were able to mesh but not distract from the overall design. It was all capped off with a large, suspended wagon wheel which made for the perfect floral chandelier. That’s our kind of statement piece!
Other details, along with the stationary, played off the Maryland theme incorporating the recognizable flag. The lace dress was inspired by the bohemian Lovely bridal salon, and we love the elegant and feminine feel it adds to this atmosphere.
Looking for something with a little added funk? Then the floral headpiece is for you!
We hope you enjoy this fabulously curated, styled shoot by some truly remarkable DC wedding vendors!

Georgetown Glamour – A Styled Shoot

June 18, 2015

Anyone who lives in the District knows that Georgetown is one of the most darling places to visit. Every year, beautiful weddings happen in this part of D.C., and the atmosphere sets up for a perfect wedding experience. District Weddings wants to feature a styled shoot by Nick & Erin Photography that was inspired by the beauty that Georgetown exudes.

We asked Erin from Nick & Erin Photography a few questions about this particular styled shoot:

District Weddings: What inspired you to use Georgetown for this shoot?
Erin: When dreaming up this shoot, we wanted to make photos that were inventive and fresh, but that would look amazing 50 years from now. I couldn’t think of a better place than Georgetown because of its historic nature and beauty that continues to draw residents and tourists year round. The classic red bricked courtyard and the modern interior of the Ritz Carlton in Georgetown was a great combination for our classic bride, along with the Georgetown waterfront.
DW: What was your favorite part of doing the shoot?
E: I loved watching the shoot come together with such a talented group of local vendors! Each one had incredible expertise and creative vision. We had the perfect pieces and hair and makeup design that made the end result better than I ever could have imagined. I especially loved the adorable sweetheart and dessert table designed by Heather Misner–I wanted to eat everything (and full disclosure, I taste tested a few items)!
DW: Where is the best place you have shot a wedding before?
E: We have enjoyed shooting in a variety of locations, from the classic ballroom to rustic vineyards, to tropical destinations. We love it all! Perhaps one of the most exciting places we have shot a wedding before was in Santorini, Greece! We love traveling, so this was a great opportunity for us personally as well. And this summer, we are looking forward to another new place for us in Yosemite National Park!
DW: What is the best part of a summer wedding?
E: Nick and I are definitely warm weather people, so we love summer weddings! The best part of a summer wedding is everyone seems to be more relaxed, the weather is perfect for being outdoors in the evening, and the daylight lasts longer so we have so much time for great outdoor photos!

District Weddings Styled Shoot: Boho Beauty

June 16, 2015

The bride’s dress is light and airy, and the groom’s outfit is equally as carefree. Yet, just because their attire is carefree does not mean that it is careless – the outfits, together, represent the epitome of a carefully designed boho wedding shoot that is filled with color and happiness. But playing with different dimension, texture, color and style we were able to pull together an eclectic look that could have at least one detail for every reader. It takes a village and mine was truly amazing!
