Blackwall Hitch

April 7, 2016

For this waterfront wedding inspiration shoot, The Blackwall Hitch teamed up with Audra Wrisley Photography to showcase their wedding & event spaces at the Waterfront in Old Town Alexandria, VA. The seven-month old restaurant is located on the Potomac River and its stunning architecture allows for nearly 360-degree vistas of the water. The nautical setting and unique architecture provided inspiration for the shoot, which showcased the restaurant’s two level, soaring ceilinged interior. The ceremony site was cozy and intimate, set on one of Blackwall Hitch’s fire-pitted patios under a heated tent, making it ideal for all seasons.

Blackwall Hitch, easily one of the most beautiful restaurants and venues in the Washington DC region, superbly lends itself to unique weddings and rehearsal dinners. Its décor conveys a decidedly upscale look as though one had just stepped onto a yacht. It combines an elegant shipyard motif with sophisticated touches like cedar-wrapped walls, reclaimed wooded tables, shabby chic restored chairs and Edison lighting that gives the restaurant a glow akin to fireflies in the evening. The menu pays homage to the bounty of the Chesapeake with seafood and beef selections. Special menus may be created for weddings, rehearsal dinners and bridal showers. Florals and Inspiration Behind the Big Day: The floral arch designed by Old Town’s Enchanted Florist was absolutely stunning, and the perfect focal point for the intimate patio Ceremony setting. The ivory & green palette was a gorgeous accent to the bride’s vintage gown and the black and white details in the Blackwall Hitch’s decor.

Iron Gate

January 25, 2016

The beauty of this close community is that we love the ability to share resources and provide recommendations to each other. Recently, the planner community got together for a tiny soirée that Teresa Lee planned at Iron Gate, so we too could experience the gorgeous space and delicious menu of Iron Gate DC, If you are looking for a rehearsal dinner location or a boutique wedding venue, look no further!

“Iron Gate is a gem! Located near Dupont Circle, this historic location is charming in every way and every season. The carriageway bar is intimate and cozy, the courtyard can be used year-round including the winter when they have fire pits and heaters and cozy blankets for guests, and the dining room is intimate and classic without being at all stuffy. Between these three unique locations at the restaurant, there is a lot of flexibility in how the space can be used. The Mediterranean menu is delicious and their wine list is award-winning. It’s hard not to love this beautiful venue!” – Teresa Lee, Rex and Regina Events.

Acqua al 2 Wedding

February 17, 2014

Jamie  and Ralph met in Florence, Italy while Jamie was studying abroad during the spring semester of her junior year and Ralph was reuniting with a childhood friend to open an American Diner.  The two started dating in the spring of 2005.

After many obstacles, plane tickets, road trips, heartache, and a lot of faith, Jamie moved to D.C. in the summer of 2011.  Ralph, having recently opened Acqua al 2 on Capitol Hill, was living above the Eastern Market restaurant in the same space where the two would eventually get married.

Jamie, a teacher at Sidwell Friends School (Ralph’s alma mater), and Ralph, co-owner of Acqua al 2, Harold Black, and Ghibellina, were married by Rabbi Shira Stutman of Sixth and I Synagogue and Judge Patricia Wynn, a life long family friend. The ceremony was followed by a cocktail hour in the speakeasy bar Harold Black, and the reception was thrown in the same intimate space that the ceremony was held.  In lieu of the cake cutting tradition, the two announced the gender of their baby with cupcakes for each guest– pink icing inside!

Society Fair

November 7, 2012

Between my love of supporting local businesses and eating delicious food, I am always on the hunt for a new favorite spot. Society Fair, located in Old Town Alexandria, is a personal favorite that really hits the spot (don’t miss the handmade chocolates-to die for!). The space is not only a sweet little shop filled with unique, gourmet eats, but also a wine bar, bakery, demo kitchen and butchery. Best of all- the space is available to host a variety of events.
