A Hint of Salt and a Splash of Lime!

April 25, 2014

With Cinco de Mayo right around the corner, we decided to indulge in a few Mexican savories, and bring you the insight to some of our favorite DC hot spots. These authentic restaurants have an impressive selection of tequilas and mezcals they use to concoct a new twist on the all-time-favorite, margarita!

Casa Oaxaca – 2106 18th St. NW; Washington, DC 20009

Casa Oaxaca is known for having the best fruit margaritas in the area. Any of Casa Oaxaca’s margaritas can be infused with any of the following flavors: citrusy blood orange, tart blackberry, heady passion fruit, tropical guava, sweet mango, juicy pear, and flavorful pomegranate.  Treat yourself to $4 House Margaritas during Happy Hour on Tuesday-Friday from 5-7PM.

Bandolero – 3241 M St. NW; Washington, DC 20007

Located in the heart of Georgetown, Bandolero has an impressive selection of Tequilas and Mezcals. Enjoy $6 Classic Margaritas Monday-Thursday 3-7PM and Fridays 11AM-7PM.

Oyamel – 401 7th St. NW; Washington, DC 20004

With a welcoming atmosphere and vibrant selection of Mexican flavors, Oyamel is definitely one of the Top 5 places in DC to sip and savor on your favorite tequila indulgences. We highly recommend, The Oyamel with Pomegranate, a margarita infused with pomegranate, milagro blanco, triple sec, and fresh lime juice. Monday-Friday between 4-6PM, Oyamel offers Happy Hour specials, including $4 Classic Margaritas!

El Centro – 1819 14th St. NW; Washington, DC 20009

Referred to as DC’s very own Tequileria, El Centro has more than 200 tequilas and mezcals to choose from. Spice up your Wednesday nights with $5 El Centro Margaritas all night long!

Rosa Mexicano – 575 7th St. NW; Washington, DC 20001

Rosa Mexicano embodies authentic Mexican cuisine, while offering a variety of premium tequilas. Rosa Mexicano prides themselves on their frozen margaritas. A must-have recommended by locals is the Mango Tropical Margarita: diced mangos muddled with agave nectar, shaken with silver tequila and served on the rocks.

Acqua al 2 Wedding

February 17, 2014

Jamie  and Ralph met in Florence, Italy while Jamie was studying abroad during the spring semester of her junior year and Ralph was reuniting with a childhood friend to open an American Diner.  The two started dating in the spring of 2005.

After many obstacles, plane tickets, road trips, heartache, and a lot of faith, Jamie moved to D.C. in the summer of 2011.  Ralph, having recently opened Acqua al 2 on Capitol Hill, was living above the Eastern Market restaurant in the same space where the two would eventually get married.

Jamie, a teacher at Sidwell Friends School (Ralph’s alma mater), and Ralph, co-owner of Acqua al 2, Harold Black, and Ghibellina, were married by Rabbi Shira Stutman of Sixth and I Synagogue and Judge Patricia Wynn, a life long family friend. The ceremony was followed by a cocktail hour in the speakeasy bar Harold Black, and the reception was thrown in the same intimate space that the ceremony was held.  In lieu of the cake cutting tradition, the two announced the gender of their baby with cupcakes for each guest– pink icing inside!

Society Fair

November 7, 2012

Between my love of supporting local businesses and eating delicious food, I am always on the hunt for a new favorite spot. Society Fair, located in Old Town Alexandria, is a personal favorite that really hits the spot (don’t miss the handmade chocolates-to die for!). The space is not only a sweet little shop filled with unique, gourmet eats, but also a wine bar, bakery, demo kitchen and butchery. Best of all- the space is available to host a variety of events.

The Ritz-Carlton, Georgetown

December 14, 2011

Last week, I wrote about The Ritz-Carlton, Washington, D.C., the famous Washington venue. Yet, just down the street, there is a lesser known but just a fabulous second property,  The Ritz-Carlton, Georgetown.

At the Georgetown location, Fahrenheit Ballroom is available for weddings and it is one of the most unique spaces in the city with loft-like ceilings, exposed steel beams and original red brick walls reminiscent of the hotel’s history as a turn-of-the-century brick factory structure that later served as an incinerator.
