St. Regis Clam Bake

A few weeks ago, the St. Regis introduced a new menu that just screams “summer!” The “New England Clambake” celebrates this season on the hotel’s Astor Terrace, one of D.C.’s largest and most beautiful outdoor event spaces — a perfect backdrop for a reception dinner, wedding, or summer soiree!

The menu brings Cape Cod to the Capital, featuring passed canapés including little neck clams on the half shell and seafood ceviche, miniature Maine lobster rolls, yellow and red watermelon salad and mixed field greens with beets, peaches and goat cheese.

Items from the grill are available as well, including jumbo shrimp kebabs, king crab legs, skirt steak skewers and corn on the cob. Delicious dessert includes individual Boston Cream Pies, and peach cobbler with blueberry sorbet, the perfect sweet endings to the menu. Yum!

Throughout the evening, guests will also enjoy cocktails from the Daiquiri Station, featuring freshly made strawberry, lime and pineapple flavors.

Now how does that sound for some summer fun?!

The Culinary Experience

Nothing is better than a home-cooked meal. Not only does the finished product often leave you wanting more, but the time spent having fun, talking and laughing over a glass over wine as you cook with friends and family is just wonderful. Even though I am often delegated to menial tasks that never require the use of sharp objects, I love time spent in the kitchen. If you are planning a special shower for a bride-to-be, why not throw her a cooking shower?

A cooking shower is conversational, a fun learning experience, and is great if you are inviting guests of all ages… not the mention that your end result will be delish! Set the theme by sending out mini-cutting boards or recipe cards as invitations. Either hire a chef to come to your designated shower location, or look into classes at DC favorites such as CulinAerie or Hell’s Kitchen.

Try to schedule or create a class that is centered around the bride’s favorite foods, or something new and adventurous you know she would love. Once everyone is satiated, enhance the fun-filled day with gifts such as an adorable apron- who says you can’t be fashionable while cooking?

I am already getting excited for St. Patrick’s Day next week! Have I mentioned that I love holidays?!

This weekend, I have my first spring wedding of the season and I cannot wait! The darling bride is Irish and we are excited to bring in her heritage to the celebration by having an “Irish Coffee Bar” and giving away “Soda Bread” as the favor. Cute, right?

Make Your Own Bloody Mary Bar

This past weekend, I was in NYC, enjoying a healthy dose of the City. My friends and I went to a fabulous brunch in the West Village where they had a make your own Bloody Mary bar…the waiter would bring a glass of vodka on the rocks, and then you could go fill it with red or green tomato juice and all the fixin’s.

I was all over the crunchy celery, roasted garlic cloves, pickled carrots and horseradish. How fun would this be for a post wedding brunch?! You know I love veggies so this was just heaven!

Has anyone else seen or done this yet?

Fruit and Veggie Table by Amy Atlas

Now that it is January, I am making a huge effort to eat super healthy and to take care of myself!

I spotted this amazing table a few weeks ago (actually, a friend and colleague sent it me knowing how much I love fruit & veggies – she sees me consume abnormal amounts each day!) and I can’t get it off my mind.
