We are back today with your weekly dose of wedding etiquette! These questions can definitely create tension during your wedding planning, and that is the last thing we want our brides to feel. So rest assured- we are here to help!
Do I have to invite everyone to my wedding who invited me to theirs?
Reciprocity is always a strong factor in wedding etiquette. For a friend who felt a close enough bond to invite you to their wedding and share their special day, it is typically a clear ‘yes’ that they should be invited to yours.
However, it is understandable in certain situations that this is not possible, such as smaller sized wedding or a family-only destination wedding. With destination weddings, it is can be fun to have a larger casual celebration in your hometown, sharing your wedding celebration with all the people who care about you.
If a large amount of time has lapsed between weddings and you have lost touch with your friend, perhaps your wedding plans may inspire a rekindling of your friendship. It is easy these days to grow apart, but good friends should always be by your side. Do what feels right for you!

My parents are paying for my wedding, but I envisioned something completely different than what they want. How do I deal with this?
This is a difficult but not uncommon situation. First and foremost, clearly express to your parents how thankful you are for their support. Then, try to meet them in the middle. Give them control over small details of the wedding that might not be crucial for you to plan, and compromise on details such as wedding size, venue, and menu. Ultimately, if your parents are paying, they get to have the final say.
If you are still having difficulty, perhaps offer to help pay for the aspects of the wedding that you really want to be in line with your style and vision. Express your excitement and explain your reasoning – your parents will be more likely to bend if they fully understand your thought process.
Have a wonderful weekend and we will see you next week!
