Heirloom Wedding Details

We are busy as ever here at District Weddings and excited to be in the heart of the spring “wedding season”.  Regardless of how hectic things are for us, at the end of each week, it is so fun to take time to think about wedding details – ways that to make a wedding unique and special.

To keep things fresh, I am delighted that we will be featuring a guest blogger, Ashley Kuhn, a couple of times each month. Ashley’s background is in Interior Design and she currently is working in the materials sector of the industry.  In addition to her day job, she spends time planning her own wedding, getting her new house in order, and writing her own adorable blog, The Chic Line. Incorporating heirlooms into your wedding day can be a really wonderful way to recognize family heritage. A little creativity is all you need to put together something stunning and sentimental, honoring generations past and future years to come. Don’t underestimate what is tucked away in the attic of your house, or your grandmother’s closet!

A brooch can become the focal point of your dress, bouquet or cake. A cluster of antique buttons or earrings could work just as well.

A vintage handkerchief can be easily made into a ring pillow, adorned with simple lace or rosettes. A found rosary or strand of pearls shows beautifully when strung around your bouquet. Photos of relatives that have passed away can be kept close to your heart when made into charms.

Family china or serving pieces can be worked into centerpieces or cake displays.

Pieces of history and time-honored tradition can add an element of comfort and security when subtly integrated with already beautiful wedding details. Even a cut of lace or silk ribbon, an old button or hat, or a set of mismatched dishes could be put to use creatively. Why not gather up some items and see what you can do?
