The (Very) Social Registry at Bloomingdale’s

Tomorrow evening, use the “Pre-Wedding” party as an excuse (as if you need one) to head to Bloomingdale’s at Tysons Corner to get tips on creating your dream registry while sipping on cocktails and munching on yummy bites. You can even enter to win a honeymoon trip to Mexico – woohoo!

It was a Fabulous “Pre-Wedding” Wedding Party!

I know we often talk about what’s happening around town.  I want to keep you in the loop on bridal events, trunk shows, special parties for brides-to-be, basically anything that is fun to attend during this great time of being engaged.

Remember the “Pre-Wedding” Wedding Party, sponsored by The Registry at Bloomingdale’s and GetMarried, that I was raving about?  Well, MK McKenna, a very talented local photographer, shared these great photos with me — and I couldn’t wait to show you.  Danielle and I had a blast meeting new brides and hearing about all of your fun wedding plans.

DeAnna Pappas, host of GetMarried TV (and former leading lady on “The Bachelorette”), hosted this ridiculously fun event.  Brides competed to set a formal dining room table — something that is much harder than it seems!

A BIG thanks to the crew at Bloomingdale’s for inviting District Weddings to participate in this great event.  We had a blast!

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times… If you haven’t yet registered and are planning to, you MUST, MUST, MUST make an appointment with Molly at Bloomingdale’s.  It will be the BEST registering experience you will ever have.  Period.

Calling All D.C. Brides!

If you are around next week, this is a party you don’t want to miss.  I am a HUGE fan of the Registry at Bloomingdale’s (if you follow this blog, you know about my love for Molly McGuinness).  Bloomingdale’s has partnered with Get Married to host these fabulously chic, style-filled parties.

Here are the details…  Everyone is invited, and like any fancy party, it is polite to RSVP (240-744-3862).  I’ll see you there!

Last weekend, my fiance and I went to register.  We started at Bloomingdale’s in Chevy Chase, Maryland (where we met Molly).  She offered us seats, gave us chilled water, and talked with us about what we like, how we live, and how we envision our home together.  She then brought items to us.  We relaxed while she gathered things that fit our style.  She created place settings, giving us options without ever being overbearing.  If we saw something else we liked, we were free to get it off the shelf and bring it to her desk (our working area).  It was so fun!

When I returned home that night, I still had questions.  How many serving pieces do we really need?  What size food processor is the most useful?  So, I emailed Molly.  She gives out her email address and phone number to all of “her couples,” so they can email her whenever they have a question.  (I’m really trying not to email her every day.)  She will add the items for you, or you can add them yourself.  She doesn’t work on commission, so she always gives her honest opinion of every product.

I can’t say enough about Molly.  We were lucky that the store wasn’t busy when we visited, but I would highly recommend making an appointment before you go.  It is well worth the drive to Chevy Chase, just so you can start your registry with Molly.  You can do everything else online afterwards.  Call the store and ask for Molly in Gift Registry (240-744-3700)…  Maybe I’ll see you there!

Ask Devon: Flower Girl Attire

I wanted to answer a few more questions before jumping into today’s feature…

From Lindsey…

My wedding is in Costa Rica, but I’m planning it from the DC area.  I am having a new dilemma with what I should have my 13 and 10 year old cousins wear. The 13 year old is going to pass out fans on the beach, and the 10 year old is going to drop orchids along the walk way, although she does not wan to be called a “flower girl”. The bridesmaids are wearing alternating colors between clover green and a mango pink. Any ideas?

A wedding in Costa Rica — how fun!  You may be sensing that the 10-year-old doesn’t want to be called “flower girl” because she feels too old for the title.  You could consider calling them both “junior bridesmaids” to alleviate her concern.  Even though she’s dropping orchids along the aisle, she can still be called a “junior bridesmaid” for the sake of the title.

These two little ladies don’t need to perfectly match the bridesmaids, but it would look very nice to coordinate their dresses with the rest of the wedding party.  Since you have already chosen mango pink and green, I think a nice shade of eggplant, salmon, or even a lemon yellow, would complement your color palette, depending on the exact shade of the bridesmaids’ dresses.  These lovely dresses are from the Juniors department of Bloomingdale’s (girls sizes 7-16)…
