Longview Gallery Wedding

Today’s wedding is like no other wedding that I have ever seen!  The unique and slightly spooky decor makes this the perfect wedding to get in the mood for Halloween this weekend…It’s a total scream!

Planner, Terri Eaves of Bash shares a bit of insight on the wedding inspiration,

“Ally and Josh wanted their wedding to be a reflection of their life together. Fun, untraditional and a party!  They love specialty brews, concerts and music. They are also night owls-their ceremony did not start until 8:00pm!  Initially, Ally’s ideas scared me!  However, once I met Ally and saw the inspiration boards she had created on her Mac, I knew this wedding would be one to remember. The first and only venue that came to mind was Long View Gallery. Ally and Josh love art and an urban space was the only one that would fit the bill.  There were a few things that Ally had to have on her wedding day: a short, vintage inspired dress, skulls, Baccara roses, leopard print and aubergine.  The mis-matched look wasn’t too hard to pull together at all!

As guests arrived, they entered thru the front of the gallery. High and low cocktail tables with sheer leopard print linens were topped with low arrangements of red flowers.  The bar had clear chandeliers hanging overhead, and across from the bar was Four Star Combo, a rockabilly and classic honky tonk band.  Guests moved up the ramp towards the back half of the gallery where the ceremony took place. Seating was arranged on three sides and pipe and drape separated the ceremony area from what would later become the dinner area and dance floor.

The wedding party (guys dressed in all black, with red print ties and Converse, ladies in all black with a single Baccara rose), walked down the aisle to Four Star Combo’s version of “All Shook Up”. Ally entered with her father, wearing a Vineyard Collection dress with hint of tulle peaking out underneath, and red patent heels, to “Sexy and 17″. Ally’s mom officiated the ceremony.”

The Quest for the Perfect Wedding Cake…

Today Bride Blogger Kerry shares her delicious quest for the perfect cake…

Dessert is very important to us.  (That might contribute to why my fiancé and I are currently on a rigorous exercise program.)  But nonetheless, wedding cake was high on our priority list.  And, I am a big believer in creating a priority list with your fiancé to decide what aspects of your wedding you most want to focus on…and spend the most money.

There were several attributes we were looking for in a cake vendor.  We wanted a cake designer who was a whiz with buttercream (we’re not big on fondant), and had a per-guest cost of around $5.  I inquired about having a different flavor on each tier — we wanted to mix things up and offer guests a choice.  And each tier had to involve chocolate, but each in a unique and delicious way!  So after reading a ton of online reviews of area cake bakers, I scheduled us for a handful of tastings.

Cake tasting is probably the most fun you can have on a cold December weeknight after a long day at work.  And our tastings went from one extreme to the other.  At one, we sat at a woman’s kitchen table tasting tiny bites of cake while her dogs ran circles around us.  At another, we were seated at the “wedding table” in the café of a fancy bakery and served huge slices of cake as families looked on, most likely in awe of our gluttony.

Finally, we had a tasting with Fluffy Thoughts at the home/studio of the owner, Lara Stuckey.  My fiancé, maid of honor, and I sat there in cake heaven, enjoying every single bite.  Lara had prepared what looked like tiny loaves of each cake flavor and a full palate of fillings, buttercreams, ganaches, and fresh fruit.  She recommended various combinations of each to try.  I experimented with chocolate chip cake dipped in coconut buttercream, raspberry curd, and dark chocolate ganache, and it was fantastic.

What sealed the deal was that rather than attempting to freeze the top cake tier for your first anniversary, Fluffy Thoughts prepares a brand new cake identical to your top tier for each couple one year later…for free!  Since then, we put down our deposit with Fluffy Thoughts and cannot wait to finally taste our dream cake.  However, we are keeping the flavors a mystery for now!

Real Wedding by Love Life Images

Last June, Devon shared the incredible engagement photos of Kaja and Dan in Union Station.  Today, we are lucky enough to see the wedding photographs, also shot by Stephen Bobb at Love Life Images, Inc.  After the fun engagement session at Union Station, I knew the wedding would be amazing…and, you will see, it really is!

Kaja wore blue Vera Wang gown. She was stunning.  They walked to the ceremony through the streets of Georgetown – how fun!

How fabulously “DC” is this photograph?  The ceremony and reception took place in the District’s Zone 2 in Georgetown.  This spot is close to where Dan proposed to Kaja not too long ago.

The reception was at the fabulous House of Sweden. How about these beautiful sunset views over the Potomac?

Before the wedding party was announced, the bridal party had fun doodling on this white board.

The House of Sweden has absolutely incredible event space.  The design is so sleek and so clean – I just love it.

Here, Kaja and Dan enter from a glass elevator. How cool is this ceiling?!
